Canal Lining Installations
Laboratory testing confirmed that Skidmark Geomembrane⢠physical properties were more than acceptable as a canal lining material. However, handling and installation procedures were necessary before it could be considered a totally viable product.
There were two major issues to overcome, the weight of the membrane and the maximum sheet width of only eight feet. The goal was to make installation feasible using a small crew of workers with light equipment.
The Oak Street project accomplished the stated goal. A five man crew installed a quarter mile of lining in eight working days and exceeding 220 feet on the last day. The sheets were 33 feet across the canal and the crew worked on plywood bridges above the water. This required leap-frogging the bridges in addition to placing and seaming the sheets.
Proven installation procedures make Skidmark Geomembrane an excellent canal lining membrane for previously unlined canals or for lining over concrete canals that have deteriorated.
